A baggage handler, doubling as a luggage guru, has dished out an essential bit of guidance for Brits preparing for getaways: avoid packing four specific items. Particularly those heading to spots in the European Union must heed advice about excluding certain pieces from their bags.

Offering insider input on Reddit, the airport employee pinpointed four no-nos for travellers utilising major UK airlines such as EasyJet, Ryanair, British Airways, Jet2, and TUI. These are consumables, drinkables (particularly booze), medications, and perfumes.

Digging into the details, the specialist cautioned: “They rot, break or leak, open. It smells, especially alcohol. Then I smell all day after picking up a bag that leaked.”

In a similar vein, another voice on the thread emphasised the value of sturdy, rollable luggage for those with sizeable bags, praising hard-shell cases sporting four wheels for their lightness, manageability, stackability and security.

In a recent Birmingham Live report, one commenter highlighted the importance of removing outdated luggage tags to avoid confusion during travel: “Remove old tags, if you have a bag tag from two years ago, as well as a load of other ones, it takes us infinitely longer to find the right date, for where it’s supposed to be going, god forbid we actually misinterpret it and send it to the wrong place, this almost always happens because the tags are confusing and we only have an hour to sort 800 bags going to 3 places.
